WHEN THE SMALL Vomit

Vomiting is a scary event for toddlers. There are many causes for your child to vomit. Knowing the cause of vomiting is very important so that you can provide the right treatment for him. If your child only throws up once, there is a possibility that he will vomit from eating too much. But if the vomiting doesn't stop immediately, it could be caused by something else.

Vomiting is not a disease, but vomiting is a symptom. For example, an infection caused by bacteria. In some conditions, vomiting can occur within 24 hours, then subside on its own. Some of the triggers for vomiting in infants are upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and ear infections. In very rare cases, vomiting is an early symptom of pneumonia and inflammation of the appendix (appendicitis). Excessive crying, food that has been damaged, drunk on the way, can also trigger vomiting in toddlers.

When your child vomits, try to keep you calm. Your panic when faced with your toddler vomiting, making him also scared. When your child vomits, be calm, and don't scold the child for not doing it in the bathroom. Count the number of times your child vomits for 24 hours. If vomiting occurs more than 8 times, then this type of vomiting is classified as severe and your child can become dehydrated. Do this:

The child remains hydrated
Mild vomiting that occurs 1 to 2 times a day, the possibility of dehydration is very low. While in the case of moderate vomiting, i.e. 3-7 times a day, and cases of severe vomiting that occur more than 8 times a day, the likelihood of dehydration is greater. Better in the form of broth or other types of liquid food, every 20 minutes. Do not give juice, soda water or water to prevent dehydration because all three do not contain minerals or calories your child needs in this condition.

Give food that is easily digested
Do not give milk after your child has finished vomiting, even though milk is liquid food. Especially if your child vomits due to viruses that cause gastroenthritis. It is feared that giving milk to children after vomiting will irritate the stomach. Give salt sugar solution after your child vomits, because this solution contains electrolytes that are needed by the child so that the brain, heart, and muscles continue to work. If the vomit is a baby, keep breastfeeding. Give crushed rice, bread, or potatoes to an older child.

Give time to rest
It's important to make sure your baby rests a lot after vomiting. Do not first invite him to move outside the home in the span of 1-2 days after vomiting. Resting your child can help the stomach to temporarily disable the stomach because during sleep the stomach tends to be empty. In this condition the possibility of food returning to the esophagus to be removed, will be reduced.

Avoid Mistakes
Do not assume that vomiting can not cause dehydration if not accompanied by diarrhea. Vomiting without diarrhea can cause dehydration. Many parents give plenty of water in one occasion which actually triggers a continuous vomiting and does not relieve it.
